Bible Verses On Racism

On the heels of what is going in North America and to kinda follow up with my last post here are some verses from the Bible on racism with a little bit of commentary.

For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek ; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. Romans 10:12 ESV

In Christ all ethic and racial differences are obliterated as we are all brethren in Christ. The is no superiority as we are all fallen and are in need of a saviour.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. John 13:34 ESV

We are commanded to love one another just as Christ loves each of us. We are all united as we are all created in the image of God.

But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 1John 2:11ESV

It is impossible to love God and hate our brothers and sisters. It is safe to assume that this means somebody of a different skin colour and/or nationally than us. We are to look beyond the outside and see the inside the heart of an individual.

You shall not wrong a sojourner or oppress him, for you were sojourner in the land of Egypt.
                                                                                                                                 Exodus 22:21ESV

Especially in North America where most of us either came from or have ancestors who came from a foreign land. With the rise of xenophobia on our continent we as believers are not to get caught up in deciding who should dwell in our land and who shouldn’t but rather welcome them with open arms. Also to remember that believers are sojourner on Earth as we are just passing through here.

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 1John 4:18

It has been my experience that racism as a lot to do with fear. We have a fear of those who are different from us, fearful that our livelihood will be taken away from us. But we cannot have the love of God if this type of fear dwells in us . I know this isn’t exactly the context of this verse but unhealthy fear leads to unhealthy attitudes.
