No Fall Election
At least that is what I am prediction here in 2020, While many pundits are saying there will be I am thinking otherwise despite the shaky ground this minority Liberal government is on.
First of all the Liberals will not pull the trigger despite them leading in the polls during this COVID-19 crisis as they are in the midst of a scandal. The WE charity has hit them hard and has caused the resignation of the Minister Of Finance (Bill Morneau) to resign and has put the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on very shaky ground. Not to mention that they don’t want to be as opportunistic during this crisis.
The Conservatives while being the official opposition aren’t likely to being down the government any time soon as they have been trailing in the polls. Also, they just elected a new leader and want to get him acquainted with Canadians as many have no idea who he is before going to the polls. They are probably the party most ready to fight an election but need to tread lightly through this crisis.
The Bloc Québécois are the most eager to being the government down but aren’t in a position to get into power. However, they lead the polls in Quebec and have nothing to lose. The NDP and Greens are unlikely to as the Dippers are broke and unlikely to ably to fight an election campaign. They also may prop the government up if the Liberals boost social spending. Meanwhile, the Greens are having a leadership race and are more likely to stay forced on that.
I don’t see an election being called for at least another year when most of the parties are election ready and if and when this COVID-19 dies down. I could be wrong however depending on the mood of the electorate.
